Sending flowers for a wedding

A wedding is the one occasion where flowers to the venue are almost always the wrong call — the room is already full of them, and the couple is gone by midnight. Send to the address they come home to, either the Friday before or once the honeymoon is over.

Why not the venue?

Four reasons, and they hold for almost every wedding: the venue already has flowers, arranged that morning by a florist the couple paid; there is nobody free to take a delivery; there is no vase, no water and no surface to spare; and the couple leaves that night, sometimes straight for an airport, so anything left behind is somebody else's problem to carry home.

A bouquet that arrives at the venue becomes a job for the person least able to do it. The same bouquet at their front door is the first nice thing that happens that week.

The two good slots

The Friday before

The week before a wedding is the loudest week of a couple's year: seating plans, relatives landing, a hundred small decisions. Flowers on that Friday arrive into all of it and ask for nothing. If the wedding is on a Saturday — most are — this is also the last delivery slot before it, because Preznt delivers Monday to Friday only.

Two weeks after

The other good moment is the quiet one. The honeymoon ends, the messages stop, the flat is full of boxes of returned glassware, and nobody has mentioned the wedding in nine days. Flowers then are remembered far longer than flowers on the day, when they are one of forty things happening at once.

If you can't be there

Flowers are the standard way of being present at a wedding you cannot attend, and they work best when they land before it rather than on the day. Say the true thing plainly — that you are sorry to miss it, and that you are thinking of them — and don't apologise twice.

"We are so sorry to miss Saturday. We will be raising a glass at exactly 3pm from a long way away. Have the best day. — Ellen and Marcus"

What to write on the card

Preznt puts your message on the florist's card, up to 255 characters — about forty words, which is more than enough and less than a speech. Three that work:

"Marie and Tom — congratulations, both of you. Thank you for letting us be there for it. With love, Anna and Piet"
"To the newlyweds. Welcome home, welcome back to the washing up. We loved every minute of Saturday. — The Hartmanns"
"Married! Congratulations to you both, from all of us at the Vienna office. We are told there is cake left. — Team Vienna"

Name both people. Sign with a name they can place — a first name alone is a puzzle when forty cards arrive in a week.

Engagements, anniversaries and the wedding you helped with

The same delivery is the right one for an engagement announced by text from another country, for a first anniversary the couple has half-forgotten, and for the friend who spent three weekends folding place cards for someone else's wedding. Any weekday inside the next three months works; the only date that never does is the weekend.

Sending it from abroad

Weddings are where families get furthest apart. Preznt delivers to any street address in the USA, the UK, Germany, Switzerland and Italy, priced in the delivery country's own currency, and the payer does not have to be in that country — you can be in Boston and send to Bologna. Common questions

Can flowers arrive on the wedding day if it is a weekday?

Yes — a Thursday or Friday wedding can have flowers on the day, at a home address, at least three business days after you order. Still send them home rather than to the venue.

How far ahead can I book?

Up to three months. That is enough to order the moment the save-the-date arrives, if the date is inside the window, and to have the whole thing off your list.

What if the couple is away when it arrives?

Pick a date you know they are home — the Friday before, or after the honeymoon. A wedding week and a honeymoon are the two weeks a delivery is most likely to meet an empty flat, and both are easy to steer around when you choose the date yourself.

Then ask for this one:

Send flowers to Marie and Tom Weber at Lindenstraße 14, 10969 Berlin, Germany.
They get married on Saturday — deliver on the Friday before.
Card: "Marie and Tom — we cannot wait for Saturday. With love, Anna and Piet."
My email is you@example.com. Use test mode first so I can see the flow.

The agent places the order; the payment link comes to you, by email, and nothing is charged and nothing is sent until you open it. Your agent never gets that link — which is the point.
