Apology flowers

Flowers do not apologise for you. Say the thing yourself, today, in your own words — and let the delivery three days later be the evidence that you still meant it once the moment had passed.

The order matters more than the flowers

An apology that arrives as a bouquet, with no conversation before it, is not read as an apology. It is read as a request: please let this be over now. Everyone on the receiving end recognises that instantly.

So do it in the other order. Apologise first — in person if you can, on the phone if you cannot, in writing if it has to be. Then send flowers a few days later. What the delivery says is the part you cannot say yourself: I still meant it after the moment passed. That is exactly the doubt an apology leaves behind, and a delay is the only thing that answers it.

Preznt cannot deliver in under three business days anyway, so the timing takes care of itself. Do not save the apology to arrive with the flowers.

What to write

255 characters, and every one of them should be doing work. The structure that lands: name what you did, do not explain it, ask for nothing.

"I should not have said what I said on Friday, and no, I do not have an excuse. I am sorry. You do not have to reply to this. — Tom"
"I missed your birthday because I was not paying attention, which is worse than being busy. I am sorry, Ana. — Marco"
"I let you take the blame for something that was mine, in front of the whole team, and I have thought about nothing else since. I am sorry. I have told them. — Ravi"

Four things that turn an apology into an argument:

  • "I'm sorry you felt…" — an apology for their reaction, not your behaviour.
  • "…but" — everything after it deletes everything before it.
  • The explanation. You know why you did it; they do not need the reasoning, and it always reads as a defence.
  • The request. "Call me", "let me explain", "hope we're OK now" — that is a demand wrapped in a gift.

When not to send them

  • When they have asked for space. A delivery is not neutral; it arrives at someone's door and requires a response. Wait.
  • When it is the same apology as last time. If nothing changed after the last bouquet, this one is a receipt for a pattern, and will be recognised as one.
  • When it is meant to end the conversation. If you would be relieved for the flowers to close the subject, that is the reason not to send them.
  • When you owe something concrete instead. Money, a correction to the people who heard it, a rota changed. Do that first — flowers on top of an unpaid debt are an insult.

The professional version

A missed deadline, a botched handover, a colleague you spoke over in a meeting. Flowers can work here too, and they carry a specific risk: sending them publicly to an office makes the apology an event other people watch. If the mistake was public, that may be the point. If it was private, send to their home if you know it and you are close enough for that not to be strange — or send nothing, and fix it at work instead.

Check the receiving company's gift policy for anything involving a client or a supplier; a $100 / £100 / €100 / CHF 100 bouquet is above some declaration thresholds.

Practical bits

Three business days minimum, weekdays only, no delivery on a public holiday in the recipient's country. Order on a Monday and the earliest date is the Thursday; order on a Friday and it is the following Wednesday. Send to a street address where they will actually be — a bouquet on an empty doorstep for two days is its own small insult.

SEND THEM FROM YOUR AGENT

Preznt is a flower-delivery service your AI agent can use directly, over MCP. Connect it once — no account, no API key:

Then ask for this one:

Send flowers to Anna Novak at 1200 W Belmont Ave, Chicago, IL 60657, USA.
Deliver on a weekday, as soon as the rules allow.
Card: "I should not have said what I said on Friday, and no, I do not have
an excuse. I am sorry. Nothing needed back. — Tom"
My email is you@example.com.

The agent places the order; the payment link comes to you, by email, and nothing is charged and nothing is sent until you open it. Your agent never gets that link — which is the point.
